Located in one of the hillier regions of Lincolnshire Stamford is a gem of a venue for a treasure hunt. Steeped in history the market town boasts twelve churches and quite a few more that are now used for other purposes.
The buildings are built from a golden stone that would easily lead you to believe you were in the Cotswolds. The River Welland runs through the town and represents one end of the Jurassic Way stretching all the way from Banbury.
Stamford was one of the twelve resting places of Eleanor of Castile. One of the great love stories of the medieval age.
The town boasts a strong theatre tradition and has many wonderful antiques shops bakeries and some great pubs including a number of traditional coaching inns including the excellent George Hotel.
