TREASURE HUNTS IN LANCASTER

If Lancaster drums up images of flat caps, back to backs and wool mills churning out coal smoke you need to think again.

Lancaster is a gem of a town. The rich industrial heritage brought with it a philanthropy that built grand buildings on a par to any found in England.

First settled by the Romans just 30 years after the death of Christ, you can still see some of the ruins of the original fort.

Not far away you will find the cathedral and beyond that the Castle which was a prison up until 2011.

The Prison has a long and dark history. It was the scene of many executions and also where the Pendle witches were tried and held.

The town was also the birthplace of the Quakers although what they would have made of the Dinosaurs Sir Richard Owen identified in Lancaster heaven only knows.

Finally Lancaster has an association with Tea and to a lesser extent coffee. One glorious remnant of the trade is J. Atkinson & Co who have an amazing coffee shop in the city. An absolute must visit for any team looking to fire themselves up.
