The Brief
Our client had previously organised various activities for the students at Edge Hill University, however this time they wanted something that little bit different and memorable.
The main objective for this activity was to encourage, new friendships, knowledge of the University campus and fun with a theme running through the experience based on the students course.
The students where studying Criminology and Psychology so a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) theme would work perfectly.
By mixing our fun generic content successfully used at other Universities with tailored CSI challenges and a guided tour of the campus we had a winning formula for the students to experience.
Adding a theme
Adding a theme to our events provides a unique experience for the guests and ensures maximum engagement whilst learning at the same time.
Add this to being outdoors in the fresh air and exploring new environments with friends is a fantastic way to entertain the students and create relationships.
With all our themed events we try to ensure a measured blend of themed content with fun generic challenges as this provides a perfect mix.
game features
For this package the students were tasked with a game scenario where they had to hunt for virtual evidence within special challenges on the map.
These virtual pieces of evidence had to be taken to virtual labs on the map for investigation and bonus points.
As as well as collecting evidence from crime scenes around the campus the students had to answer questions relating to their course at GPS hotspots and visit buildings to learn about their importance.
Our generic problem solving, memory games and fun trivia added to the experience along with all the usual creative and humour provoking photo challenges.
Conclusion
As we hoped the event was a massive success for the tutors and students 🙂
As soon as the event finished our client said that they would be booking for the following year which is the best feedback that we could have hoped for.
What made this event so successful?
Apart from the usual huge amounts of fun for the students, along with friendships made and healthy competition there were some very positive outcomes for the tutors.
These focussed around the following –
Time saving – Our client was able to concentrate on their main job instead of having to organise off site activities for the students. Following years will be even easier and the event will be mirrored so very little for the event organiser to do.
Inclusivity – Our event provided the tutors with an activity that was suited to everyone on the day. The students could all have their moment to shine during the activity and break down social barriers.
Onboarding – Our activity provided the tutors with a brilliant interactive platform to bring the students up to date with building locations and course content. Learning through a fun activity always embeds better than a paper map of the campus or PowerPoint.
